Road Tax (Teli Kykloforias) 2026 in Greece: What Drivers Need to Know

The Ministry of National Economy and Finance has confirmed that the 2026 Road Tax will remain unchanged for all vehicle owners. The government plans to first review the findings of the Special Committee on road tax policy before making any adjustments.

The new tax notices are expected to be uploaded online in late October or early November, and drivers will have until December 31, 2025, to complete their payments.

From last year onward, late payments now carry penalties instead of free extensions:
• January: 25% surcharge
• February: 50% surcharge
• After February: 100% surcharge (double payment)

Vehicle owners will pay the same amounts as in 2025, based on the car’s first registration date, engine capacity, and CO₂ emissions. The only way to avoid paying the fee is to electronically submit the license plates and declare the vehicle off the road.
